Hit track for two meets

The Flandreau Fliers track and field team got a chance to enjoy the nice weather this weekend with two track meets, the first in Pipestone on Friday and the second, the Barker Relays in Madison on Saturday.


On the girls side on Friday, they were highlighted by second place performance by Hannah Williams in the high jump with a leap of 4-08. Williams also took fifth in the 100 hurdles with a time of 18:78.

Kathy Parsley continued the good finishes for Flandreau in the hurdles with a fourth place finish in the 300meter hurdles with a mark of 55.04. Baylee Relf and Shanaya Lunday each finished sixth in their respective events. Relf in the 400meter dash with a time of 1:07.20 and Lunday in the discus throw with a mark of 80-01.

The boys team had a lot of success in the relay races on Friday. Both the 4x100 and 4x200 teams took the top spot on the podium with times of 45.73 and 1:34.45. Both teams consisted of Ted Slattery, David Parsley, Jacob Patterson and DJ Johanson.

Taylor Ryan took home the fifth place spot in the 100m dash with a 12.60 and Alex Bakkedahl finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 39.09.

The Fliers were a bit depleted on Saturday with many student-athletes staying back in Flandreau for prom, but they made the most of it. Marilyn Allen took home the best finish for the girls with a third place finish in the 1600meter run.

Johanson finished third in the 100m dash for the boys with a time of 11.6. Flandreau’s 4x100 and 4x200 teams each finished in third and consisted of the same four guys that ran in Pipestone the day prior. The 4x100 team finished in 45.60, breaking standard and qualifying for the State meet in late May.

The Fliers next event was yesterday in Sioux Valley and will follow up with the Howard Wood Relays this weekend in Sioux Falls.
