Colman-Egan 53 – Lake

Preston 35

The Colman-Egan girl’s basketball team picked up a win in their only game last week when they torched the Lake Preston Divers, 53-35, in Dakota Valley Conference action last Thursday night.

The Hawks jumped out to a big first quarter lead and never relinquished it over the next three periods.

After picking up an eight point lead after eight minutes at 13-5, the Hawks put together their most prolific quarter of the season. The girls were shooting lights out from all over the court on their way to a 23-point quarter and 36-20 halftime lead.

The Hawks added three more points to their lead in the third quarter, taking a 46-27 lead with eight minutes to play.

Lake Preston was able to better the Hawks in the final period but it was not nearly enough to overcome the huge lead put on them in the first three quarters.

The Hawks used an all around team performance on Thursday night, putting together their best game of the season. The 53 points CEHS put on the board is a season high and just the second time they have eclipsed the 50-point plateau this season – the first was their 50-43 victory over Garretson on December 8th. The Hawks out rebounded the Divers, while forcing 22 turnovers.

The win improves the Hawks record to 2-8 overall and 1-4 in the Dakota Valley Conference (DVC).

Hailey Harms and Tori Nelsen each put up 14 points for the Hawks. Harms added eight rebounds and did not turn the ball over all game. Nelsen added seven boards and three steals to her totals. Mandy Entringer put up nine points including a 4-6 performance from the free-throw line, while Paityn Groos put up eight points and a team high 11 rebounds.

“The girls did a great job of putting together a complete game last night. All four quarters they were aggressive, rebounded well, and shot the ball well. We will use this momentum as we head into the DVC tournament,” said Head Coach Kristi Smith.

The DVC tournament started Monday when the Colman-Egan faced of with Estelline for the second time this season.
