Lake Central Conference meet

Guy Zephier finished in first place last Monday at the Lake Central Conference cross-country meet in Volga en-route to Flandreau’s third LCC title in the last five years. Not to be outdone, Marilyn Allen’s second place finish during Monday’s meet led Flandreau to their first ever girl’s LCC title. The two could not do it alone – on the girl’s side, Allen’s (16:42) second place finish was followed closely by teammate Caitlyn Drietz’s sixth place finish of 17:09 and Kathy Parsley’s 10th place finish of 17:49. Ashley Stenger finished in 13th for Flandreau with a personal best time of 18:28 and Quinn Orlick took the 20th spot finishing in 21:58. The combined times by the Flandreau girls was a season best for the team.

The boys blew the competition away in their meet. Zephier’s time of 17:55 was followed by teammates Anthony Julson’s (18:34) third place finish and Dylan Erickson’s (18:56) sixth place finish. Kyle Kramer finished in 21:02 to take 14th position and Michael Nelson ran a 22:10 to take 21st.

Flandreau won the boy’s event by 14 points and their average time of 18:28.97 was just under a minute faster than second place Deuel.

Big East Conference Meet

The two teams did not have too much time to celebrate the victories, as they had to get back to Volga on Thursday for the Big East Conference meet.

Although the conditions were much worse on Thursday than the previous meet on Monday, the girls were able to overcome the cold weather and windy conditions to perform great again. Led once again by a lightening fast time by Allen of 16:08 good enough for fourth position. Drietz took 11th position for Flandreau with a time of 17:24, while Quinn Orlick finished right behind her in 13th with a time of 17:31. Flandreau’s fourth runner Stenger, finished in 17th position with a time of 18:08. Morgan Orlick (18:46) finished in 22nd and Baylee Relf (19:10) took home the 29th spot.

It came down to the fourth runner for both Flandreau and Parker to see who would take home the 2012 BEC title but Parker was just too fast and took home the title over an impressive performance by the Flandreau squad. FPS was led during the race by a second place finish from Zephier (17:55). Julson and Erickson pushed each other to the finish line in time to place fourth and fifth respectively with times of 18:17 and 18:18. Nelson (21:32) took the fourth spot for Flandreau coming in 21st position, while Kramer finished up in 22:16 for 27th position. No body had an answer for Parker’s Duane Jongeling who finished 63 seconds faster than Zephier to capture the individual title. The Fliers finished in second place with an average time of 19:00.90, 59 seconds slower than first place Parker.
