Colman-Egan entered the week 2-12 and was looking for anything to get the ball rolling in the right direction. But the schedule for the Hawks volleyball team is not working in their favor. C-E took on two tough opponents during the week, the first of which, Chester Area, was 10-3 entering their match with Hawks and is regarded as one of the best teams in Class B.
The Hawks gave everything they had to the favored Chester Area girls in the first game of the match. They clawed their way back from some big deficits and played pretty well but in the end, Chester Area was just too much, taking the set 25-19.
That is when things turned ugly for the Hawks - losing the next two games 25-5, and 25-8. They were unable to get anything going and the tall frontcourt of Chester Area was just too much for the undersized Colman-Egan blockers.
Tori Nelson, Baylee Groos, Hailey Harms and Mandy Entringer all had two kills for the Hawk offense but C-E was not able to get any production out of their serve, something they did not get a lot of opportunities to try and get rolling.
Entringer led the way defensively with 15 digs, while Nelson and Groos each tallied 12.
Colman-Egan had one more chance during the week to get back on the winning side of things. They hit the road for Deubrook, who entered the match 7-9.
It was another rough night for the C-E netters who did everything in their power to try and get things going but just couldn’t get consistent enough attacks to win the match.
Colman-Egan battled through the first match only to lose 25-14.
The second game started out well for the Hawks but a few miscues gave Deubrook the momentum they needed to take the game 25-15.
The third game was a quick one - Deubrook finished everything at the net and did not allow Colman-Egan to get anything going offensively. The Dolphins took game three 25-9 and the match.
Burgin Groos led the Hawk attack with three kills on nine attempts. Baylee Groos and Tori Nelson each added two kills, while Hailey Harms and Lynnie Angle each tallied one a piece.
Entringer and Hailey Harms each added three aces from the service line – each of the Groos girls added an ace as well.
The Hawks played their only match of this week last night against Moody County foe Flandreau. The results of that match will be in next week’s paper.
