Geneva M. Powell, age 88 of Pipestone, MN, died Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Riverview Health Care Center in Flandreau.
Geneva Marlene was born to Emil G. and Hannah (Willert) Lamp on July 28, 1924 in Ward, SD where she was raised in the Ward and Elkton, SD areas. She was confirmed at Peace Evangelical and Reformed Church in Elkton. She attended Flandreau High School in Flandreau, SD, graduating in 1942. Following her education, she worked as a beautician in Flandreau and Elkton for several years. On September 22, 1946, she was united in marriage to Arthur Powell at Peace Evangelical Church in Elkton. Following their marriage, they farmed in the Pipestone, MN area for 43 years. In March, 1988, Arthur became ill and they moved into Pipestone. On October 5, 1989, he preceded her in death. After his death, she continued to reside in Pipestone. Geneva worked for 22 years at the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone; and after her retirement, she enjoyed doing volunteer work there. On March 23, 2010, she moved to Riverview.
Geneva was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone. She was also a member of several clubs. She enjoyed her many beautiful crafts and flowers. She was a beautiful seamstress and enjoyed making her children’s school clothes. She was a 4-H leader, teaching the members how to sew for many years. She loved baking and will be remembered by her family for her homemade bread and her ginger cookies. She was a dedicated wife and mother, raising her six children.
She is lovingly remembered by her two sons: Steven (Wanda) Powell of Pipestone and Rick (Tamara) Powell of Brandon, SD; four daughters: Janelle (Larry) Steffen of Colman, SD, Sharolyn Paige of Pipestone, Nancy Powell of Sioux Falls, SD and Jodee (Mark) Griebel of Pipestone; six grandchildren: Jared and Kade Powell, Cody (Arin) Powell, Kileey and Conner Griebel, and Kim Yonkers. She was preceded in death by her husband; one granddaughter, Karey Powell; and her parents.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 29, 2013 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone with Rev. Clifford Adair. Burial in Old Woodlawn Cemetery, Pipestone.
