Walter S. Bach, 77

Walter S. Bach, 77, of Flandreau died Friday, July 23, 2010 at Avera Flandreau Medical Center.

Walter  Soren was born January 28, 1933 to Kristen and Myrthe Jokumsen Bach at Flandreau. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith and Confirmed at Midway Lutheran Church, rural Colman. After completing his formal education, he joined the US Air Force on February 24, 1950. He spent 17 years in the Air Force and completed tours of duty in Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Iceland as well as many Stateside Bases. He was a Medical Services Specialist. He married Rukiye Sukru on July 22, 1959 in Ankara, Turkey. After leaving the Air Force, he joined the US Army Reserve and then the Army National Guard, retiring in 1987. He worked several years for Twin Disc in Rockford, IL. After Rukiye’s death, he returned to Flandreau. Walter married Bette Fuller on June 18, 1997. He was a lifetime member of the D.A.V.-V.F.W. and Kelley-Porter American Legion Post #70, Flandreau.

Walter is survived by his wife, Bette; 4 step-children, Gary (Susan) Nelson, Grand Marias, MN, Jeff Nelson, Pipestone, Greg Nelson, Flandreau, Toni Taylor, Colman; several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Louie Kramer; sister-in-law, Alfreda Bach. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rukiye; parents; brothers, Elmo and Jens Bach; sisters and brothers-in-law, Fern and John Anderson, Rose & Glen Peterson, Evelyn and Stanley Savillano, Violet Kramer; and two infant sisters.

Memorial services were July 27 at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau with burial at Colman Cemetery.
