The Great Plains Traveling Zoo made visits to Flandreau and Colman this past Saturday to showcase a few animals that either live in the ground or dig for their food in the ground.

Kids and grown ups alike were able to learn about and pet four animals brought to Moody County in the Mobile Zoo vehicle. Zoo staff member Ashley Verdeck showcased a two-striped skunk named Luna, a 22-year-old turtle named Rocky, Bonnie the Ferret and Boomer the Blue Tongued Skink.

Verdeck walked around and taught the spectators all about the four animals and allowed them to pet the animals and ask questions.

Overall, the events were considered a big success as over 60 people showed up to the Flandreau show and over 20 in Colman.

The Zoomobile was sponsored by the Moody County Resource Center, the Colman Community Library and the board of directors for both libraries.
