Children’s Theatre performance in June to feature local youth led by national touring company
The nations largest touring children’s theatre, the Missoula Children’s Theatre, is coming to Flandreau to help with the performance of the J.C. Wade Children’s Theatre on June 22.
Area kids from 1st to 10th grade will get a chance to audition for a part in the ever-popular story, “The Tortoise Versus the Hare” by Jim Caron. This children’s story tells of a tortoise, who is slow moving by nature, and a hare, a fast and furious little mammal, who set off to race each other in the annual Reptile vs. Mammal showdown. Although the hare is a much faster creature, they soon find out that slow and steady wins the race.
The Missoula Children’s theatre will audition any child from grade 1-10 for a part in the performance. The play has a maximum of 60 parts available plus four assistant directors positions.
Parts have been divided into three different age groups with a select number of actors and actresses needed for each age group. For instance, of the 60 spots, 16 are reserved for children ages 1st grade through age 7; 26 for those 8-12 years old and 18 for students ages 13 to 10th grade.
It is a weeklong event for the children, with the Missoula people coming in on Sunday the 16th of June and starting auditions on four, 4.5 hour rehearsals from Tuesday through Friday, culminating with two performances on Saturday, June 22nd. All children interested are encouraged to audition.
